Estimated strikeouts:

Strikeouts for batters were not recorded in 1902. This absence from major league recordkeeping had started in 1897 and lasted through 1909 in the National League, and it was standard practice for the first twelve years of the American League.

Even so, strikeouts were recorded for pitchers; ergo, we know the league totals.

The formula for estimated strikeouts: Batter Outs (AB-H), multiplied by League Percentage of Strikeouts/Outs = Batter Strikeouts.

This simple remedy gets credited to Arod23Garlon, an OOTP aficionado. With his system, hitters with higher batting averages have lower strikeout rates. Considering the importance of high batting averages to Deadball Era baseball, it seems to be a reasonable match for this Wiki Project.

The DMB era rates were recalculated and the event tables saved; otherwise, inserting values for these missing stats would have had no effect. Adding estimated Ks changed replay results dramatically from 2,000 strikeouts a replay to 7,000. Thats a little high, but perhaps a massage will work out the kinks. To compare the differences estimated strikeouts make in playability between this database and the standard third-party Deadball database with missing batting Ks, run the earlier edition: 1902-061706.

The database has not been tested for replay performance at this step in development.

See the organizer note, About the Wiki Seasons Project, to learn more about the wiki concept for DMB database development.
