(1) Corrected the "too much offense" problem in the AL. Retrosheet data omitted SH's allowed by pitchers for most pitchers.
I estimated the SH's allowed by pitchers based on a league ratio of SH/(H+BB+HBP-HR). This lowered the league batting
averages to the real-life range. I also added the estimated SH's allowed by pitchers to the pitchers' BFP stat. This
corrects the pitchers' event tables which are based on outcomes per plate appearance.

-----------------

(1) Added real-life line-ups for the entire season.
(2) Did extensive data checking and added the following stats:
     Batters: HPB, SH
Pitchers: SH (NL only), HBP, WP
(3) Set SF for batters and pitchers to zero.
(4) Input corrected/official ballpark ratings and input 3 ballparks for the Braves:
South End/Fenway: A weighted average of their home ballpark for the season
South End Ballpark: Their home ballpark for most of the season
Fenway Park: Their home ballpark for August 1, August 8, September 7-29, and the World Series
(5) Fixed 1 error in the as-played schedules. The Dodgers/Phillies game of 10/2 should have been part of a 10/3 DH.
(6) Corrected Carl Weilman. He was input as Carl Wellman, a player who played several decades later.
(7) Added transactions at the end of the season to set the Braves' and Athletics' roster to their World Series roster.
(8) Estimated the following stats when saving event tables:
     Batters: IBB & GDP
Pitchers: AB, SH (AL only), 2B/3B, IBB, GDP
(9) Calculated Jump & Steal ratings using the guidelines in DMB Help. For the AL, which had both SB & CS, using the formula
provided SB & CS that are realistic to the real-life stats. For the NL, which lacked the CS stat, I had to do a lot
     of trial and error testing.
(10) Used trail & error testing and adjusting to set the Bunt rating for each player so that each simulates near their
real-life total for sac bunts. For some players, an Ex rating wasn't enough and I was required to set their Player
Tendencies to produce more sac bunts. DMB has a bias that players with low batting averages will sac bunt much more
often. Even though pitchers sac bunted in real-life 8x more often than position players in Sac Bunts per Plate
Appearance, virtually all pitchers received a Fr or Pr rating.
(11) Updated the Starts vs. L&R and Fielding Starts in the real-life data. The starts represent starts for all games
excluding tie games. The outfield stats broken out by outfield position are from Baseball Prospectus stats. I don't
know the accuracy of these fielding stats by outfield position. In many instances the stats are inconsistent with the
starts and often appear that they were estimated.
(12) Added Range ratings for all players that are based on the Baseball Prospectus fielding ratings. For position players
the Range ratings are directly proportional to the Baseball Prospectus fielding ratings. For pitchers, it's inversely
     proportional.
(13) Robert Bofors did 100 simulations and compiled the results for data-checking. Minor tweeks to fielding and steal
     ratings resulted.

May 30, 2005
------------

(1) Update the starting lineups to the player who played the most games at each position. There were some teams/positions
where the starter specified only played 1 or 2 games at that position. (AL & NL only)
(2) Update the Depth Chart for all 16 AL & NL teams. Previously there were zeros for all non-starters. I didn't
differentiate between vs. LHP and RHP. I did the percentages out equally for both sides (except the Braves' outfield).
     (AL & NL only)
(3) Corrected and added defensive positions for players. Some players played many games at a position but the database
didn't have a rating. I made the rating similar to the ratings of their other positions. (AL & NL only)
(4) Added 3players. I added Bressler (PhA), Warhop (NYA) and Schneider (Cin). They were missing.
(5) Corrected a player. I found a player who started most games for the Athletics, but in the database he was put on the
     Yankees' team.
(6) Broke out the schedules and leagues. I reorganized the teams into AL, NL and FL and broke the schedule out by league
also. I then set up an Org of the AL & NL together (combined schedules).
(7) Schedules by Shane Holmes are "as-scheduled." I added "as-played" schedules. (AL & NL only)
(8) Separated eras for both the AL & NL. Before the era was for AL & NL combined.
(9) AddedMLB debuts (signed to roster) and MLB final games (removed from roster) to the Transactions file. There are a
couple of players in which the player debut occurred before the existing transaction for being signed to roster. In
these cases, I am deleting the existing "signed to roster" entry that is after the MLB debut. (AL & NL only)
(10) Prior ballpark ratings were for the 1915 season. I left Hits, 2B's and 3B' alone since they're close to 100 for all
teams. I updated the HR ballpark factors for all parks (AL, NL & FL). Used more correct formula from KJOK (agreed to
as most accurate on DMB forum).
(11) Modified era pitchs for starters and relievers. I adjusted things (in correlation with manager and player ratings) to
get total league complete games and league leaders in complete games to be very close to actual. (AL & NL only)
(12) Added manager profiles for every team (same for every team) to reduce the frequency that pitchers are pinch-hit for,
relievers are used and closers are used. (AL & NL only)
(13) Added player profiles for a few select pitchers to get them a few more complete games. These are the league leaders.
     (AL & NL only)
(14) Added platooning for the Braves' outfield. The 1914 Braves were the first team to widely use platooning.
(15) Added HR's given up by pitchers.
(16) Ken Schmidt (thanks, Ken) looked over all batting data in detail and found around 20 individual stats that were
incorrect. These were things like a player's hits or walks being off by 1 or 2. These were corrected.
(17) Re-saved the batter & pitcher event tables for all players, which estimated values for the following: Batters (HBP,
IBB, SF, GDP) and Pitchers (SH, SF, GDP, HBP, IBB, 2B/3B). They were not entered and showed up in the event tables as
     zero.

If you find anything else that should/needs to be changed, please email me at blackbelt65@msn.com.
If you decide to modify this database further, please shoot me an email. I'd like to tell you in more detail the things I learned from this season database.

I want to thank Paul Dunwoody for being the original creator of this 1914 season database. The work that he put into creating it was far greater than the work I put into cleaning it up. Thanks, Paul.
Also, I want to thank Shane Holmes for his input into this project. He's the prior person to modify this database and I benefited from his knowledge.
