The Replay World of Elite International Triathlon  ( Duathlon and Ironman too !)

Sportsreplays Games International TRIATHLON Simulation, based loosely around the Athletics and Swimming Game systems and including the London Olympics events.

The game is strictly non-visual - no board of any sort is supplied or needed, the action being controlled by pen and paper or an excel spreadsheet.  But the results and times  will be extremely accurate, being based on each athlete's leading performances in any race specific event times.

Three methods of play available in one game :

  • Training rules ensure that athletes' Fitness Peaks are reached at different times, so performances will vary accordingly.
  • You can strictly replay an International Race as a pure replay simulation based on that Races results and not use the training rules
  • You can even replay a local Town, College, High School or University or Athletic Clubs Race if you have the results, again ignoring the training rules.

This simulation attempts to recreate the varying performances of the Triathletes by using a fairly quick-playing system based on their event times and the concept of fluctuating Fitness Levels. To achieve relatively quick-playability much of the fine detail of these events has had to be omitted or the game would have lasted longer than the events !  ( It is not quick play instant result style)

Unlike Athletics and Swimming, the Triathlon is somewhat different in that you cannot use Personal Best or Seasonal Best times as a starting point. Every Triathlon of the same length / series is different in its timing due to the nature of the varying courses and conditions when run, so using PB’s would be inaccurate. So we have taken as the starting point the ACTUAL SPLIT TIMES of any event you want to replay.

The Game comes with a sample Triathlon Race Control Sheet and a number of sample actual race results sheets from which you can build a replay plus some links where you can source your own results – with Internet searches you will find many more ! To replay any race you simply need to look on the Internet and find the FULL SPLIT TIMES for the event you wish to replay

We have included charts for the Sprint, Olympic, Half Ironman and Ironman, Triathlon distances with the game. No doubt someone will want to stage events for which we have not included charts.  To recreate any other distances all you will need do is create Event Charts for it so you could use ones from a similar distance event, with a revised number of Race Turns. This makes the system very flexible.

So flexible that it can be used for Duathlons as well as Triathlons and Ironman events.

We do not intend to issue updates for this game - everything you need is in the game or out there on the Internet for you to source and use for your replays.

Mens, Ladies, Pairs, and Dance events, can be replayed with our Excel Helper to get through the events quickly, or on the table top with dice, and the game includes Training rules and Role Playing rules to create your own character and train to compete !

This simulation attempts to recreate the varying scoring results of the skaters by using a quick-playing system based on their event score results and the concept of fluctuating Form Levels. To achieve quick-playability much of the fine detail of these events has had to be omitted. But the game-system used does, we believe, encourage repeated playing by recreating some of the excitement of the Individual events without using any playing board or too long a playing session.

I wanted this game to use the individual skaters scores for any event and then calculate from that a variable that allowed final results with quite a degree of accuracy but at the same time the ability for upsets and excitement of game play. I wanted the game to be playable in reasonable speed so that it was exciting and be able to run a “season” of events and see who comes out best overall in a reasonable timescale of game play. I also wanted the ability for the game to have an add on Training system to make outcomes even more variable in a RPG style as an option, to allow YOU to create a skater and match yourself and train to improve and be part of your own replay if you wish and finally even create your own fictional Figure Skating world if you so wished !

I hope the end result has achieved that. It was developed with a lot of play testing by myself using excel spreadsheets, and I decided to allow the game to come with these rules and charts, AND the excel sheets as helpers and also let these helpers retain the supplied player ratings and add to as you wish. The ratings also come as pdf's if you dont have excel. So you can run a whole event in the excel helper, or run the event for all skaters except your own and roll for that one manually, or play the whole game manually. The choice is yours.  I also supply the links for where you can get additional ratings and insert in to the sheets yourself.

FINALLY because of the way this game plays, you can even get the results from your local Skating Competition and replay and run that within the game system if you wish. It is playable at all levels.

The game is very flexible deliberately so you can use it as you feel happiest and make it your style of game and play the way you want to.

The game comes with the Skaters / Ratings for the World Championships 2013, European Championships 2014, Olympics 2014, and World Championships 2014, for Mens, Ladies, Pairs, and Dance events.

"I LOVE the figure skating game!  I went nuts with that and had a so much fun.  I can't wait till next winter.  I even made some rinks to roll the dice on!  They really add to the game experience.  The other thing I do to add to the suspense is roll for the entire short program one day and letting the anticipation build, roll for the long program the next day!  Sooo cool!
